Guidelines for Troubleshoot 13.20 Paper Jam Errors - HP LaserJet 4200, 4300, 4240, 4250, 4350, P4010, P4014, P4015 and 4510 Series Printers
A 13.20 error might occur on power up while the printer believes that paper is bound in the paper path. This particular error can show up if paper is stuck into the path pressing downward the paper path sensors. The error might also arise if just one of the sensor lever is wedged in a straight down position.
NOTE: A sensor lever is the flag that moves as the paper passes and unblocks / blocks the actual optical sensor.
It could also be considered faulty jam, in a few occurrences no paper is discover inside paper path; however, error issue is triggered by a bound sensor lever or perhaps in some situations a malfunctioning sensor.
NOTE: At 1st turn on, if the printer fails to spin around the printer motors then zero in your attention around the fuser region of hp printer. If you do get main motor rotating, then concentrate needs to be along the top of the page and the prefeed sensor.
13.20 Troubleshooting Instructions
Look at the paper path regarding wedged piece of paper or obstacle. Often paper will jam and a portion of the page might split off and remain inside of the HP printer.

Find the pre-feed sensor and look for a document jam. Open the top cover / lid, remove toner cartridge, pull-out the plastic block (with #4 printed on it), press down on the part with the #5 noted on it, it opens up the paper path this allows you to see the path that paper takes when moving from the lower trays (See Fig's 1 and 2). look down into the paper path. The lever for pre-feed sensor is off-center to the left (See Fig. 3). Paper will most likely tear away and be jammed in this area, try to find small pieces of paper.

Notice the top of page sensor to see if it is moving without hindrance. Lift the top lid and take-out the printer-cartridge. Pick up on the green lever attached to the black metal plate. This allows us to look the registration assembly and the paper width sensor (View Figure 6). Pull-back the registration plate; this is the chrome metal piece with 4 black plastic knobs on them. The sensor lever for the top of page sensor Is located in the middle and just about precisely under the registration roller. The sensor flag is hard to view as it is straight in the middle beneath the actual white plastic rollers. Ensure that this lever is rotating back and forth and returns right back.
Identify the paper width sensor and ensure it is moving freely. The lever with regards to paper width sensor should be to the left beneath the identical black metal plate as seen above (See Figure 6). Make certain this sensor flag moves easily and returns back. (See Figure 6).
NOTE: Regarding the HP Laserjet 4240, 4250, and 4350 printers there is an added width sensor on the right-side, ensure that this sensor flag is rotating back and forth as well. The LaserJet 4200 and 4300 printers will not feature a right paper width sensor.

Locate the fuser sensor and check for paper jams or likely torn small piece of paper caught with the fuser assembly. Take out the rear door; remove the fuser assembly by taking hold on the blue clips and talking out.
Open up the back end of the fuser and examine the sensor flag inside fuser, make sure it also moves and snaps back into position.(See Figure 7).
